Choice. Independence. Safety.

COVID-19 did not create the problems that exist in New York’s nursing home industry. It exposed them. For too long New Yorkers have languished in nursing homes and other congregate care settings, jeopardizing residents’ health and safety.

Independent Living Centers (ILCs) are part of the solution. These community-based non-profits run by and for people with disabilities provide vital advocacy, services and support to individuals so that they can live fully independent, integrated lives in their communities.

Each year, ILCs prevent hundreds of our neighbors and family members from being institutionalized and hundreds more are helped to transition from institutions back into community-based settings.

Getting out of a nursing home and receiving proper and safe care at home can change lives for individuals and their families.
