Position: Director of Finance

Location: Albany, NY

NYAIL is a state-wide, non-profit organization, working with Independent Living Centers across the State to eliminate physical, communications, attitudinal, and other barriers for people with disabilities. NYAIL members are Independent Living Centers (ILCs), consumer-controlled, cross-disability providers of advocacy, services and supports to people with disabilities. NYAIL administers several statewide programs in collaboration with its member ILCs, managing a multimillion-dollar budget and 50+ subcontracts.

Duties and Responsibilities: The Director of Finance will report to the Executive Director and will be responsible for managing all agency financial functions, processes and procedures, including grant-related accounts. They will lead the Finance Department which includes direct supervision of an Account Clerk and oversight of the fiscal responsibilities of several program specific staff. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Overall management of Cash Flow; Deposits; Accounts Payable; Accounts Receivable; ACH Payment processing
  • Reconciliation of all financial accounts
  • Prepare required grant vouchers for submission to funding sources
  • Execute a grant-related voucher payment system
  • Manage multiple grant-related subcontractor accounts; make timely fee-for-service vendor payments; audit subcontractors invoicing for accuracy
  • Prepare and submit bi-weekly payroll and 401K deposits, management and administration
  • Generate all agency financial reports including quarterly Board Reports
  • Generate grant-related financial reports as needed
  • Preparation of agency and grant budgets
  • Manage year-end processes and preparation for the annual agency audit
  • Financial and programmatic record keeping
  • Develop and adjust fiscal procedures as needed for smooth agency administration
  • Supervision of Account Clerk
  • Other duties as specified by the Executive Director and Assistant Executive Director


  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Accounting/Finance
  • Good understanding & knowledge of GAAP
  • Workplace fiscal experience, preferably within a non-profit organization and grant related funding
  • Fluency in QuickBooks and Microsoft Office Suite required
  • Experience supervising and managing staff
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and computer skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience leading a finance department preferred
  • Experience with the concepts of IL, consumer control, and equal rights for persons with disabilities preferred
  • Preference will be given to individuals with personal experience with a disability
