Description: The New York State Independent Living Council, Inc. (NYSILC) is looking to fill a full-time Community-Building and Media Specialist position based in downtown Albany, NY.

Responsibilities include:

  • Provide basic changes to the website and updates to social media. Work with vendor to request/learn more sophisticated changes to all platforms.
  • Create messaging/send posts of important news, articles, surveys via Constant Contact and HootSuite to raise awareness about NYSILC and its duties, activities and programs.
  • Continuously look to build community and lists for distribution of messaging, including periodic tabling at community events.
  • Create YouTube videos and or podcasts (Closed captioned with descriptive narration) to promote key activities or programs of the council, such as working with a vendor to develop a virtual Hall of Fame to raise awareness about the individuals/annual awards and event.
  • Become a member of the database work group, providing input, summarizing meeting minutes, and identifying progress for each step of the statewide data interface project.
  • Work with vendor to learn the web application (website) built for the statewide data interface project. Review and provide feedback regarding the training manual for statewide center staff. Provide support for the identified center staff regarding 6-month and yearend data uploads, use of the website, and troubleshooting.
  • Communicate needs/monitor work progress of the IT/web consultant and other vendors for support related to the council’s computers, peripherals, server, and website.
  • Provide support for a videoconferencing platform, such as Zoom, to allow members and guests to participate in various council/committee meetings, and other sponsored online events.
  • Work with staff to compile ideas resulting in the quarterly newsletters.
  • Facilitate a quarterly blog.


  • Proven experience in the work duties described above; bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Knowledge of relevant programs and platforms to perform necessary duties.
  • Ability to multi-task with a strong attention to detail.
