Location: Main office is in Albany, but as a statewide position, the location is flexible.

Title: Youth Power Director - Oversees Youth Power projects and initiatives to promote and enhance youth-guided work including Youth Leadership, Advocacy, Peer Support & Involvement

Status: Full-time, salary employee.

Summary: There is an opening at Families Together in New York State (FTNYS), Youth Power, a statewide network that is run for and by youth and young adults. We work together to ensure young people have meaningful involvement on all levels of the services they receive. We ensure the availability of Peer Support through persistent advocacy, technical assistance and by offering training and education opportunities.

Qualifications:

  • Must have personal lived experience and involvement in one or more Child-serving systems, including Mental Health, Disability, Foster Care, Addiction, or Juvenile Justice.
  • Experience working/volunteering as a Youth Peer Advocate or comparable peer role
  • Bachelor’s or Associates Degree preferred but not required
  • Must be able to travel throughout the state

Knowledge/Skills/Experience:

  • Independently motivated; Excellent coordination and organization skills;
  • Experience with youth leadership and advocacy;
  • Supervisory experience with specific experience supporting and mentoring young professionals;
  • Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills;
  • Demonstrated ability to engage with diverse groups; Demonstrated ability to speak with small and large groups of people;
  • Experience with various software packages: Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Go-To, Zoom, WordPress

Duties:

Responsible for planning, implementation, monitoring, and tracking outcomes and reporting

Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Develop and expand the Youth Power Network
  • Supervise and Support Regional Youth Partners (RYP) to:
  • Recruit new YP members
  • Coordinate the gathering of youth input for FTNYS, State Agencies, and other partners
  • Identify youth and young adults to serve on committees/councils/task forces
  • Provide Technical Assistance to Youth programs in the regions,
  • Seek out and network with youth groups and youth leaders

Serve as staff liaison to the Youth Power Advisory Council

Work with the FTNYS Communications Team to promote the Youth Power Network and activities including contributing to the Website content, writing and editing articles, developing podcasts, & presentations

Work with the FTNYS Workforce Development team to Train and Educate Youth

  • Edit and contribute to trainings and curriculums for youth in leadership, advocacy, peer support and peer advocacy

Public speaking and workshops

  • Present at various conferences and events to increase awareness of youth involvement and the issues that are important to young people.

Network nationally to bring the voice of youth in NY to the federal government and national arena

Serve on committees/councils/task forces as a representative of Families Together in NYS, Youth Power

Compensation: Competitive salary commensurate with experience.
